    Default Dixon MX, Portales, NM

I just wanted to throw out a couple of dates for Dixon MX's final two races of their winter season. February 21-22 is the last race of their six-race winter series and then March 28-29 will be a non-points race. In their first season of racing, the attendance has grown from about 185 to about 250 entries, so word has been getting out. I don't think they have had to run any heats yet, but there are several motos with almost-full gates!

You can check out their website at http://www.dxnmx.com/index.php.

The soil at Dixon is epic! It ruts up like crazy and the track gets rougher as the day progresses. The Saturday practice at last month's race ended up with multiple ruts in the corners (and I am not exagerating when I say more than 4 or 5) and the back straightaway had straight ruts down its entire length, even running up the face of the big double back there. A lot of the corners have different options and the sweeper headed to the finish line has a flat outside or the inside line has 4 singles. You need to come see what I am talking about. For this part of the country, it is the best soil we have ever raced on.

The Dixons are also committed to making significant changes to the track every other race in order to keep the layout from getting stale. So, the current layout will be changed after the February race. When their track is not running, they are out racing somewhere. I know that several racers got to meet them at last month's Midland race.

Anyway, there doesn't seem to be any area race schedule conflicts for their February race so come check out the track. I would be shocked if you left unhappy...

Man I hope you weren't the one taking those pics!! If so, I'll help you learn to setup your camera for a proper exposure.

Dustin actually contacted me to come out and shoot at his track a few weeks ago. He said his local photographer is just ok and also I could give him exposure in Hoelshot. I replied back to him that I would if he paid for my hotel since it's too far to drive back and forth from here and also that I be the exclusive photographer at the race. He has yet to reply and I've since been asked by Cody Bounds to shoot the rest of the GP's and the next one happens to be on the 22nd. So, I will not be going to Dixon. That's too bad. I would have liked to go check it out.

Heck no! This is what my photos look like...

I think he had to cover pretty quickly this season after his original photographer had to pull out just days before the first race.

I think his first race next season will be in June, so you and Dustin have plenty of time to make that work out. I hope so! You know we loved the photos that you took at TNT this past summer.

So as not to upset Russ's delicate sense of photography, I will try to post some of MY photos after the next race on here and show the corners, ruts, and layouts better...

Kasberg, it will be worth the drive. They are thinking 300+ next weekend! I think by the March race, he will have expanded his starting gates to 40 and will have a TT/Hare Scrambles track running. Concrete is poured for "real" restrooms. Now that Sandia at Albuquerque is gone, Dixon should have a pretty good jump in entries.

that's great news. real restrooms are a huuuuge plus for tracks - if momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. i'm glad these guys are so excited, but it's a bummer to hear about sandia. track closings are never good, but at least someone is stepping up to offset that.

340 entries at Dixon this past weekend. Man are they ever doing it right! If you missed it, try not to let it happen again..... Jason Anderson rode in every moto he could and stated "this is an awesome track and the dirt is sweet". Those kids fortunante enough to be there were SCHOOLED! No doubt that Jason Anderson is a F A S T & TALANTED young motocrosser. Cannot wait to see he and Tomac go at it this spring.

It was fun getting to watch Anderson race again. He raced at Tulie MX quite a bit a few years ago.

As Ricky Johnson says about Anderson: "He is not the next McGrath or Carmichael, he is the first Jason Anderson!" He has a style all his own.
