    Default what would you do?

I had a new motor built from a very reliable out of state engine builder with many performance parts. So I called a local performance shop to have it dynoed. I took the bike their and they dynoed it with the brand new knobby tire on it! Instead of changing the tire to a street tire, They didnt call me to ask if I wanted dyoned with the knobby. When I picked the bike up They said they didnt want to scratch my new wheels by changing the tire out. I looked over on their wall they had rim savers their. I guess they dont know how to use them! What moron runs a bike on the dyno with a knobby? They trashed my new tire and gave me very inadequate data. And the jetting was terrible. So I paid for this fool to trash my tire and not jet my bike properly and give me crap data that I wanted and paid for to be accurate. They gave me every stupid exuse in the book and blamed everybody but their self for the stupid mistake. I took the bike to a real performance shop afterward because I didnt want an idiot foolish enought to dyno a bike with a knobby to ever touch a motorcycle of mine again. The horespower the new dyno testing yielded was 14hp different from the real performance shop and the torque was 10ftpds diffrence and the rejetting made 2.8 hp diffrence and took the bog out of the bottom. The first shop wouldnt replace my tire and wanted me to bring the bike up to redo. I wouldnt return my bike to them after the made the choice to run the knobby with out calling and stupid enought to run it with a knobby I didnt have any confidence in them touching my bike at all.

Tell us all here which 2 shops you used so we dont make the same mistake with the bad one while giving props to the good one.

Sounds like a guy I heard on PS3 last night , talking about how he spent $3,000 on suspension for his quad atv.

I say you call out that shop on here so the whole community can know about them. That's exactly what I would do-

o can i tell what shop it is? i heard about this a couple weeks back.

go to every shop around locally, and eventually every one of them
will do something to piss you off sooner or later-it just happens.

I'm a tire snob and I would not be a happy camper if someone rode on the street with my new knobby, let alone put it on the dyno.

Man. Is it just me and my 1986 mindset? Motocross has always been 95% rider and a stock bike that works properly was good enough for the rider to do his part. Suspension was always more important than engines anyway. Money is much better spent on gas and practice day entry fees. But then again, I've been out of the loop for awhile. Who needs a dyno. If the bike feels like it should and and the rider is getting pulled in the straights, get on the throttle earlier in the turn and brake later on the next one. Corner speed and line choice is the key. Optimum jetting can change from conditions and atmosphere every ride. Knowing your own bike is part of the game.

It's their money, let em spend it if they want too...It's just like the guys with jacked up trucks...Whatever. My stock bike gets me around the track just fine, stock suspension too.

If I were you I would call up there all day every day untll they atleast get you a new tire, if not refund your service charge...They will give in eventually. Or say their name on here, I don't care, but unless its an actual motoshop who gets buisiness off of here, I doubt it will help you any. Good luck, that sucks!

I agree. Not to mention the last I checked a Dyno can't measure the difference in riding surfaces...hard pack, sand, loam, etc... Throttle response and throttle control on the various surfaces are more important than total horse power at any particular spot on the curve.

YZF225 paid for a service and it sounds like he got screwed, it doesnt matter if you all think the service was necessary or not, IMO.

I have not seen too many dirt bikes dyno'd, but the ones that I have seen had street tires on them. I would assume that is common practice for dyno-ing a mx bike..

I agree. If you are told you are getting a service, you should get it.
