    Default Rabbit Run?

I wasn't going to say anything because I figured some of the other old school guys would.... and since Shand brought it up....

I don't like someone telling me how to run my business so please don't take this as me telling you how to run your business, it's just my 2 cents:

Out of respect for Texas Motocross history, I think you should call it something else. In Texas (particularly North Texas) calling this new track Rabbit Run is like opening a track in Southern California and calling is Carlsbad or Saddleback. It just isn't right.

You said you aren't old enough or from here but I'll bet Shannon knows the history from RR. Ask around, look in your berm book, PM Bermmiester - there is a ton of very significant history that happened at that place. You should let it rest in peace out of respect.

Also - I'm pretty sure Hoffmaster never raced there, maybe you meant Hallman?

Eehh, I could have. I'll let the guys know what you guys have suggested. Another reason they chose that name is because Micheal's son's nick name is rabbit because he does run faster than most his age.. This son doesn't ride so it is a way to include him in the sport.

While I understand the nostalgia behind a name and what it represents and certainly no disrespect to those who were involved with it, but is it really that big of a deal that they name their track Rabbit Run or even as a compromise, Rabbit Run II? I think anyone that knows or cares about the original Rabbit Run would know the difference... at least this way the name lives on.

I think the name Rabbit Run II would be considered a good tribute....just my thoughts, and clearly just a friendly suggestion. Back in the late 90's Village Creek opened up Ross Downs II - in honor of the legendary Ross Downs Flast-Track and MX Park. A crew of people out in CA did indeed open Saddleback II (5-6 years ago- didn't last long) to pay respect to the original Saddleback. I've never minded and actually thought it was cool to see a name/place get reincarnated so that the name lives on.........hopefully Michael will give the II after the name suggestion a thought.

    Default Rabbit Run Pilot Point

Sheila said it exactly right! This is no disrespect to Rabbit Run in Plano. The name was established at my kitchen table with three 9 year olds and two 11 year olds. They named it after my son who does not even race motocross. We are so excited for everyone to come out in January 2010. I have surrounded myself with the best people in motocross racing and training and we are very excited!!!! Long Live Rabbit Run Pilot Point....

..and a plaque or something telling the history of Rabbit Run. You will be linked to the original for choosing that name, whether you intend to or not, and if you embrace that history, I'll bet most of us old geezers will embrace your track as well. Carrying that torch could be a pain though. If you don't care about the original, I would suggest using a different name. If you do, that could be very cool. Just be aware that you are taking on alot of baggage by using that name.

Will it be open to the public like other tracks or is it a private practice facility like MTF?

We will be open to the public on weekends and a couple of days during the week. We have discussed setting up a membership program, but need to work the details out before we sell them.

Our target date to open is Jan 1. Of course we will be keeping you updated. I may take some pics today. I hadn't yet because it was getting quite dry and it wasn't pretty, lol. (We will have water there, its still on the list of 'to dos', lol.)
