    Default Canadian Vet. Nationals

I just returned from Calgary Alberta after riding one of three races for the Canadian Vet. Nationals. I want to say this series is not for your couch sitting, beer drinking, ride-once-a-month, average over 30 and above rider. The track was knarly and un-touched to grooming which made it different every moto. I want to throw out the idea of running a similar format over 2 days which included 5 fifteen minute motos that gave everyone a fighting chance at doing well if they had a bad start or crashed. They ran classes starting at +30 through +80. No one showed for the plus 80 class but there was one rider (Zoli Berenyi) who was 77 and still could twist the throttle pretty good. Is there any one interested in putting something like this together? Maybe it already exists, any one know?

There is a Vet Championship race at Glen Helen in California. I don't know much about it, but I do know that Texas rider, Bryan Jackson, won a championship there. I'm sure he'll post up something!

Ah, I was just practicing today thinking about that Vet National...lol The Glen Helen deal is only a 2 moto format but the track gets plenty rough. They take most of the big jumps out, but practicing around 150 bikes per practice get's er pretty rough for moto'ing. I had a blast and want to go to Canada as well. Just coming off a bad injury that had me sidelined for nearly a year and I actually didn't think I'd ever race again - yet I was Blessed to partake again. I'd love to see someone like Michael Kasberg, Audi Davis, Tracy Kitchens and Daniel Jackson (my son) put something like you mentioned together. I know it'd be costly and take a lot to do it, but many older racers are actually pretty serious about racing at events out together just for them for some reason. I am hoping and training to try and make the American Vet Championship in Houston in 2 weekends. Moto'ed 3 sessions today and I still got a ways to go, but I'm trying.

Looking forward to the East VS West this weekend at Nocona. So glad I made the cut.

    Blessings,

We do that here every year. The International Old Timers Assoc. 5 motos, classes are policed so there is no sand bagging. You blow away everyone in a moto they will bump you to the next highest class. The race brings people from all over N. America, Canada, Mexico and a few Euro's. They also run a support class for young timers +25, +30. You should look into running it in 2010 the race is last of february first of march, last year it was at ACP (Arizona Cycle Park) check it out. AZ is a hell of a lot closer then Canada.

Thanks for your replies. Definately will try out for that National here in the states for 2010. I have two brothers that reside in Canada which was the other reason for making the long trek. Hope to see you all on the gate one day.

I used to ride with Over the Hill Gang in Cali. There were four chapters, each of which hosted a National. National's are two-day affairs, two motos each day, along with support classes (i.e. more motos). The motos are long as well.

The club would race 2 times/month on average and would just be +30 and above riders (and families). I would love to get something like this started here in TX.

I'm with you hackman. Its hard to justify spending $45 for your typical 4 lap race and who can't ride hard for 4 laps? If us old guys want to stay in shape then we need to have an excuse like a 15 or 20 minute moto to look forward to. Any track promoters out there that would be willing to consider it?

Is that a vet race or a vintage race? I don't have a vintage bike to ride, of course I used to (didn't we all) but I think I sold it for a case of beer or something stupid back in the day.

I believe that they are running both that day.

The International Oldtimers Assoc. has chapters all across the country. They are well orginized and have a fair ranking system.

I'm all in, if we can find a good track that will play along. I know River Valley might be interested and we could throw-in Burleson for old-school flavor
