    Default Computer Gurus?

I'm, on a P.C. so 11k you can just STFU right off the bat.

With that out of the way, all of the sudden, if I go to another site by hot linking off a forum, I can browse the site normally, but when I shut it down to go back to the forum it's locked up. I have to "End Task" and re-open it.

Anyone have this anomoly, and if so, what the heck did you do to fix it.

I've deleted internet files, and cookies. It doesn't need de-fragging, it's annoying.

I assume you are using Firefox 2.x on MS Vista Ultimate and both are up to date with patches?

how about this: listen to Joes advice. Joe, slow it down a bit. Then when you're done fixing that POS, go buy a Mac.

I can't go much slower than that! How often do you see me post only one sentence?

I think it is safe to assume that although it is a PC, it's not running Solaris, Linux or better yet FreeBSD (or hacked Mac OS X for intel).

Suppose I should have started with "have you tried rebooting"? That even applies to Mac sometimes.

Figured I'd give SMF the benefit of the doubt and assume he's with the times, running the "best" Windows and the best browser available for it.

Plus, I do have Vista (Enterprise instead of Ultimate) and of course Firefox on my Windows box (actually Parallels for Mac) at work, so I could make a reasonable effort to try doing the same thing on my "PC" to see if I can reproduce the problem.

I assume you are running Firefox 2.0.0.6 on your Windows 2000 box?

Or if you like retro/vintage (and maybe you do if you run 2000) then also consider Netscape 9. Modern browser, retro name.

If you are running IE 5 or 6, well, don't expect Microsoft to fix any problems with those (in other words, shut up and reboot already).

If you clicking a link off this forum you were probably sent to some random porn site. Which I would assume gave you or your computer some kinda virus. Probably the herpes!?

Ability to surf porn virus free was not among my list of requirements when I deceided to buy a Mac.

But when I do wind up on a porn page, random or not, the only thing sick is the porn!

And it's generally accepted that nice pictures do tend to look even nicer on the Mac.

So are you hitting a bunch of "random" sites linked from the memberlist or something? Haven't tried that lately.

When was the last time you ran windows update? Make sure all the critical patches are installed.

Why the assumption? I have both pieces of software you mention and no issues.

As I said above, I'm giving benefit of the doubt.

That and some wishful thinking on my part since that's what I have on my "PC" at work and could therefore be most helpful with.

Like you, I have no problems with Vista and Firefox 2.
