    Default Need Information!

I am helping a friend who has a 2001 YZ2250 2 stroke. He has let it sit out for a long time under a car port and I have it up and running good, but went to change the oil and the drain bolt is torn to hell. I have tried to loosen it, but it seems frozen in place. I had the same problem with his drive gear, the bolt was rusted on, but I finally got it off.

Any help or ideas would be great! Thanks!

    Default drain bolt.

Your best bet for the drain bolt will be to use an easy out. If it is a aluminum stock drain bolt, they have a tendency to sieze after sitting or getting hot and cold a couple of times. Replace it with a stainless moose racing plug once you get it out. It is also a good idea to use anti seize on the drain bolt if you stay with the stock application.

EZ's post makes me want to say... run the motor, get it hot, and see if the drain plug will then give.

I guess that I am thinking that this has already been attempted. I guess that should have been my first line of advice.

Heat it up carefully (cutting torch)

Anyway to get a socket on it? Might try a smaller size. If not try a chisel.

take the clutch cover off and save yourself the headache of stripping the drain plug out. If you screw up the threads, yoiu will have to helicoil it or go through some other pain in the ass stuff. Just drain it from the clutch cover. Make sure you lay it over to get all the oil out.

I say split the cases... remove the bolt and repair if necessary. As a bonus you will drain the oil as well!

Nice call PU300, I agree. If this scooter is as roached out as it sounds from sitting in the weather, it for sure needs a little love inside the box as well as out. So split em!!!!!!!

And you can put them back together in your own kitchen! All you need is an oven for the cases and a freezer for the lower end.

come on...7 year old sunbaked, rusted bike. I say run it. It will be fine. Probably still has the factory suntan oil on the filter too. It is probably not old oil that is going to put this thing to rest.
