Default Disgusted with local dealers and local riding scene.

So I recently moved here from PHX, AZ. I have rode both street and dirt and have raced on the club level in CCS SW for 4 years. I was involvd in alot on both the street and dirt side of the house back in AZ. I have been out of the game for 2 years due to injury recived while deployed. Anyway since I have been here in Abilene I have have visited both dealers for several reasons. Its seems very clear that Kents is all about Harleys and they dont know much about the sportbike life or even the dirtbike scene and where to go to ride. Great for Harley riders, sucks for everyone else. Max's, I was told they owned and managed the track in Clyde. So today I made my way over to find out whats the deal on the track was. Such as why they are only open on sundays and just random bench racing talk, that I enjoyed so much at most dealers back in AZ. I dont remember the dudes name but how unhelpful can you get. This guy was either really stoned or a seriously head case. I am seriously regreting moving to Abilene. I can tell now that I will have to drive 2 hours just to keep my son into dirtbike racing, something he would do 5 days aweek back in AZ. Its sad with two tracks in 30 mins and neither of them seem to be open when advertised.

Abilene isn't the best place for the moto scene, or much of anything actually. I'm guessing you moved because of the AFB?

The guys at Max's are great; I've bought almost every bike from them since I started riding when I was 12 (10 years ago). Sounds like you just caught the wrong guy. John and Al, the two owners, are some of the best guys in the sport and raced most of their lives.

I encourage you to go back up to Max's and talk with John or Al. They do own the track in Clyde, but I believe the Jackson family operates it. Either way, I guarantee if you offer to help out at the track (pick up trash, whatever), they'll let you ride there a little more often. It won't be prepped, but if you're serious about racing, that doesn't matter anyway.

Otherwise, moved to Lubbock or Dallas!

Yes, Maxs is a great place but just as with anywhere, not everyone represents the owners the way they want to be represented. Please do go back and introduce yourself to John and/or Al and ask them to introduce you to their guys, and that you guys are in the dirt bike scene. As to the track in Clyde, my son does the events out there but has nothing to do with anything else, such as practice weekends. A stated, they do not prep but at least it is somewhere to ride. Go to www.springvalleymx.com and/or www.datmxevents.com and check out what's coming up. Events out there are really awesome and those websites will show all scheduled event dates for this year.

If my family can help you further please give us a call. We travel, race, and do ministry every weekend and have for many years. We live about 60 miles east of Abilene in a small town called Eastland, so we understand drive time to enjoy MX at its fullest.

Yes I am here becuase the AF relocated me to Abilene. Ill give Max's a second chance, hopefully it turns out as well as you say it does. As far as the volunteering part, I plan to do more then just "pick up" trash. I think if advertised these track could stay very busy 3 days a week. I will just have to do the research to talk to the right people. Hope to see you around the tracks.

I'll drive to the Metro plex if I want to buy a bike. I wont pay retail plus for the same bike I can get for 1k of 2 hours away.
