I am writing to tell you all about a recent tragedy involving TCCRA and TORO racer Bill Lofton. Bill is a 50+ A rider (TORO A816). Bill was riding Saturday at Rocky Ridge and had a bad high speed get-off. The net result was he had to take a care-flight to Baylor hospital where he is now in ICU.
Bill had 8 broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a broken scapula, 2 broken fingers, bleeding in the brain and spleen.
I honestly don't know what can be done to help Bill and his family - But I'm open to suggestions as to know what can be done to raise some funds to help Bill and his family out.
I have reached out to Bruce V. with rider down and Jennifer Webb (former TORO diva). Although I haven't raced TORO the last couple of seasons, I was one of the founding staff members of TORO and I was instrumental in getting TORO off the ground and also involved in getting Bill racing again. Now I am devastated as he is broken and in the ICU at Baylor Dallas.
I am looking for any help and guidance you all could give here - I will also post this information on the TCCRA and TORO forums.
To anyone who can assist or provide some direction on getting a fund started for a fellow rider and racer ---- Please feel free to call me directly to discuss as I'd like to get the members of our sport rallied behind Bill and Beth. He is in for a long recovery and some very hefty medical bills.
Thanks,
Jeff DeFord
