2010 KX450 Coolant Lose

I heard if you replace the radiator cap with the 1.6 Kawasaki cap it would stop the loss of coolant. Well, I replaced it and it still looses coolant. I can see it run out the overflow hose but it isn't like it is under pressure like it would if overheated. The engine isn't overheating. I cannot find any other wet spots or leaks. The oil has no water in it. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you fix it? Any ideas? I thought about doing a leak down on the engine to rule out the head but wouldn't there be either be water in the oil or oil in the water?

its a dirtbike that runs very hot, its going to puke coolant. In a car there is a recovery tank that catches it, and when the car cools off it sucks it back in the radiator... a bike doesnt. The stiffer cap helps, vbut doesnt stop this from happening

Would after market radiators fix it or should I just fill'er up after every moto? Has anyone ever fitted a recovery system like I see on some of the factory bikes? I haven't really thought this through but what if I just plugged off the overflow tube? Would I bust a hose?

i put a recovery tank on all my bikes, got them from motohose

and no, an aftermarket radiator wont cure it either, just top it off after your motos

Does the recovery tank require a different cap? Can I just Google motohose to find them?

I found their site. For that price why wouldn't the manufacturer just put them on their bikes. Looks and sounds like a no brainer to me.

Hater, is there any reason you used the Motohose system instead of Motion Pro? Motion Pro looks bigger but mounts to the fork leg behind the number plate.

because it was small and out of the way. I didnt really like the idea of moutning it to the fork and having to run water lines toward the front....

Todd from SLM told me to only put the coolant just to where it comes over the top fins. The coolant needs room to expand and circulate since I have done that I no longer loose coolant. I was having the same problem you were having till he told me to do that and now my problem is solved.
