Nice Rage...I was coming home from RV today and saw a bunch of people parked on the side of the road, figured something was going on, but couldn't see anything. Next thing I know the blue angles came hauling ass over my truck throwing smoke or whatever they use... from the north, was like holy crap, grabbed my camera, only to remember my battery went dead! that sucked, they were so close. Couldnt have been 500 feet above me, was neat. nice shots.

yep, covers the General Electric gatlin gun. I built tooling for that cover.
the hydraulic motor on that thing spins the barrels so fast, it sounds like a pneumatic die grinder. We got to watch them do a groung test one day, and there was no "Bang" only an eerie groan, followed by a high pitched whine as the thing wound down...Oh, that and a whole bunch of brass hitting the ground, and shit flying all over the place down range.

PU300 - I was out there Saturday. I didn't see or hear anything bust barrier. I think thats a shot taken from another plane judging fromt he angle. It was still an awesome show even though I didn't see a Stealth this year. My dad grew up on an airport, was around planes all his boyhood years. He always took us to those shows. When I was kid I hated them, now I love them.

It was a new f-18 Superhornet the f-14's are dunzzo they don't fly anymore as of late last year. They aren't aloud to break the sound barrier over the show but they get pretty close. It was sweet!

Rage certainly outdid me. But then he was ready for it. I'm just minding my own business (or minding BNSF Railway's business) and here comes this group of planes. Not supersonic, but not exactly slow either.

Yeah, a 500mm would have been real nice for that. Wish I didn't have this sense that someday I'll jump ship to Canon or I'd consider Nikon's 80-400mm VR lens. Don't see myself getting $1400 worth of enjoyment out of such a lens though.

I remember that well, we used to love it. I think the fact that it would knock pictures off the walls, and scare the crap outta the natives put an end to all that.

yeah they used to do it back home too. i asked a couple fighter jocks up here at work. they said its possible but heavily restricted, especially over populated areas but they have done it at airshows...although not recommended. lol. for reference the f16's deployed during 9/11 from Langley to DC/NYC were only allowed max subsonic. seems odd they wouldnt let them but it's ok to do it for showing off purposes.

It's gone as quickly as it appears.
What you can witness for longer periods is "Vapor decompression". If it is humid at all, when a plane makes a hard turn or climbing maneuvor, the air above the wing decompresses and it looks like smoke coming off the wings.
Kinda scary the first time you see it.

I thought about it, but its weird to think about them breaking the sound barrier in a 4g vertical climb. I am just playing with compositing and volumetric clouds...Didnt really turn out....not really meant as anything artistic...but there ya go....

Yeah, he's not quite 3 years old so he's probably going to put on another 1000 lbs. if he's like his daddy, which is something you can't really predict, his horns will exceed 6' across. But again, horn size and shape is always a crap shoot with those things.
