Kent had a bad crash today when the drain plug came out of his bike and it seized on a jump face. He broke 2 vertebra in his back from what I have heard he has no feeling from his chest down. The docs believe the spinal cord is severed. Please keep Kent and his family and friends in your prayers. He's headed down a rough road but I know Kent is a fighter and he can make it. He is at parkland under the watch of doctors. Just say a prayer for Kent and his family if you can. Thank you.

As Cole said - I talked to his dad and its true his cord is severed and nothing from the chest down. This is a great family and strong beliefs and I'm sure they would all appreciate the prayers.

Sorry to hear that. Tell Kent to get in touch with Roy Schellenburger. After he was paralyzed at the Daytona SX back in '95, his dad Leo built him a shifter kart with hand controls and he's been racing them ever since. PM me if you would like Roy's #.

Not to take the focus off Kents injury, but this is the second time in 3 months that his drain plug has came out. The first time was at the Loretta area at Oak Hill. Why did this happen?
Ive known kent and his family for 8 years or so, and they are great people. It sucks that most of the time bad things happen to good folks. Stay strong Kent!

Sorry I have been unable to update today.. Our internet got knocked out by the storm yesterday and I just got it back.
I talked to John Piszor who has been up at the hospital some and he said Kent is in good spirits. John said he is eating and talking to everyone so that is an improvement. He is scheduled to have surgery tomorrow (friday) to get vertebra fused together in his back I believe, so keep him in your prayers that he will have a successful surgery. That is about all that I know, but I also found this link to his Caring Bridge website
http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/kent872
I believe his sister is updating that everyday so hopefully most of the info and updates will be on there. Me and Piszor are working on some mini 872 number plate stickers and wristbands to sell for the family's benefit so hopefully we can have those by sometime next week. For those of you who don't know Kent, he is a well liked a local A class rider from mt. pleasant, TX. Kent always has a smile on his face as somebody already said. He's a strong individual and I think if anybody can pull through this, Kent can. Keep the prayers and get well wishes coming.

I was there tonight for a couple hrs. Kents dad (John) is encouraging people to come by. Im sure tomorrow wouldn't be a good day if you wanna see Kent but the family needs support too. Alot of people there tonight. This is a special family that believes they will all get stronger thru this and putting it in gods hands. The only thing they said they need is the power of prayer and hope prayer chains can be started all over. Very touching and uplifting to see how they are approaching this new chapter in their lives..............

In all the pictures I've seen of Kent, he was wearing a neck brace. Does anyone know if he was wearing it when he crashed?

June 12th, 2009, 11:06 AM
Just to clarify a few things we are getting calls at River Valley asking what happened to Kent. For the record Kent was not at RV when he crashed he was at another track.
I have however talked to David about putting together some kind of Benefit to help out Kent and the Stephenson family and David, Liz and mysefl will discuss it in further details this weekend. We will more then likely have a practice day real soon and a portion of the money collected will be donated to the Stephenson family as well as donations will be taken at the track for the family. I will update shortly on here and on the River Valley website when this will take place.
River Valley Mx and the Lux family are always willing to step up to the plate and help out a fallen rider in the mx community whether the incident took place at their track or at another track.

he will be out of surgery at 3 so im going to head up there around 4. im not sure if he'll be awake today but im sure he would love visitors tomorow! he cant wait to beable to sit up and get out of the icu.
Thanks for all the support his family really appreciates it keep the good words coming!

thanks for the update john, i know this has really been hard on you, being best friends with kent.....i remember your dad telling me he was very proud you had kent as a best friend, your dad thinks alot of kent and since i think alot of your dad, i always thought of kent as a really good guy, thats partly why this has been so upsetting.
collin and i both pray for nothing less than a miracle.........
are thoughts are with you too,
along with all kents family and friends.............

There is power in prayer - Dr's said the spinal cord was severed - I saw the MRI myself - looked horrible - after surgery they came out and couldn't believe it - it was not severed or even punctured!!!!! This is nothing short of pure grace. There is HOPE - he is already being funny and determined. All I can say with a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes is WOW.

Grew up racing with Kent as a D and C rider and quit right before we went in to B to take my first year of college more seriously. John F. and my dad started talking on the gate at Lake Whitney during the last round of the FMF winter series when we were beginners. One of the nicest families in the pits. If anyone can overcome this it would be them.
