AV-GAS is it safe to use???

I've heard of people running av-gas in their bikes... But I've never heard any details about doing so. Is it any better, or worse, than race fuel?

100LL avgas is good fuel. It's not as good as a bike specific race fuel but it is better than pump gas, especially 10% ethanol pump gas. 100LL contains 2 grams of lead per gallon so if you have a bike that detonates on pump gas, it's a good choice. I have a few friends that still run 2-strokes and they all run 100LL because their bikes ping on pump gas. Stock compression 4-strokes are very forgiving with regards to fuel so race gas and 100LL is usually overkill. The only exception is a highly oxygenated race fuel like U4.2, which typically gains 1-2hp out of a 450, but to get that gain you need to fatten up the jetting and then you are committed to spending $10-12gal whenever you race or practice.

I mix my avgas with pump gas for ALL my bikes 2&4 stroke,my 06 cr 250 has at least 400 hrs on it & never been in the lower end.A lot of peeps think that av gas drys out the seals,I don't think so,maybe hondas are superior equipment!

try 100 octane and mix it half and half with premium works good for me and its not as expensive

Av Gas is meant to be run by low rpm large bore engines that operate at altitudes up to 12,500 feet ‎normally. It is not the best for a bike by any means, not bad but there are better fuels. Try VP C12 ‎leaded and non-oxygenated and mix it 1 part C12 to 2 parts good pump gas and yes you can find fuel ‎with no ethanol. Ethanol is the enemy of any small engine and motorcycle. The best bang is U4.4 it is ‎leaded and oxygenated and adds 6% to base hp pour in straight (no mixing) with little or no additional jetting. In ‎addition if money is no object use MR12 adds 10% to base same pour in straight replacement, do not ‎mix U4.4 or MR12.‎

I agree with Big Sid on the mix of pump gas and C12. I've been using this mixture since 4 strokes came out. (Actually, I used the same mixture on my 2 strokes before that.) I've never had any problems. Bikes run clean, don't detonate and I've alway felt confident that, by mixing the C12 with pump gas, you can overcome some shortcomings the pump gas might have.

This is incorrect. 100LL Avgas is designed to prevent detonation under the worst case scenario, which is a fully loaded turbo/supercharged powered aircraft under full throttle during a sea level take-off.

100LL is an excellent fuel for racing motorcycles that require more octane than pump gas. It's all I use in my racing 2-strokes. Four strokes tend to run fine on crappy 10% ethanol pump gas.

100LL does have blue dye in it, but all my bikes have carbs so I don't know if it would be an issue with the fuel injected bikes.

If you are storing fuel for more than a few days, it's always preferable to use a steel can. The Eagle Safety Cans sold at Lowes are great.
