Zach went down hard in practice today in St Louis and according to Boogie, has a broken T5 and fractured T6 and T7 vertebrae.
Just what I've seen on Facebook so far. Here's to a speedy recovery!

He also broke every rib on the right side of his body and had an air bubble in his lung, making it difficult to breath. The hospital wasnt quite prepared for this type of injury (it wasnt a gunshot wound) and most of the doctors were out until today. He should get his back brace today and have a fun drive home tomorrow

Wow. Total bummer. Zach was on the move. The transition from amateur to pro may be tougher in mx than any other sport.
Prayers for a speedy recovery.

Let me start with a huge THANK YOU to everyone. The moto community has been great and to all of our friends and those concerned about Zach THANK YOU for your thoughts and prayers. I am sorry I haven't been able to get back to some of you but I will.
Zach clipped the triple after the over-under, went over the bars and landed head first. He has a long list of injuries but the worst is his neck and back. He does have full range of movement in all extremities with no numbness or tingling anywhere now. He is in a lot of pain and has a lot of swelling in his neck. He broke his T5 and has non-displaced fractures in his T6, T7, T8 and T9. All will heal on there own with no surgery but he will be in a back brace for at least 12 weeks.
Other than that the other injuries are things like an air bubble in his lung and a bruised lung, they should heal no problem. He broke all of his ribs on one side (lots of pain there), strained the ligaments in his neck, busted his lip pretty good and has a nice bit of road rash between his eyes. Still don't know what that is or where it came from.
He has been fitted for a neck and back brace which we are still waiting on and just had the catheter removed. We are still waiting for him to use the restroom on his own power. Once the back brace is on and they make sure the back is stable he may be released to come home tomorrow or Thursday.
I firmly believe the reason he is as good as he considering how he landed is is due to one thing and one thing only, his LEATT Brace. I can't say thank you enough for that thing and what it prevented. It took the full force of the blow and did it's job. It may not do the job everytime but it did it this time and to me, that's all that mattered. Riding without one is like playing Russian Roulette.
Sheila Nidday, you are AWESOME (and beautiful) THANK YOU.
Shand Garcia what can I say but THANK YOU. You are an outstanding individual that cares and shows it.
Spanky, THANK YOU and your family. There are no others like you guys and probably never will be.
Jason and all the guys at Central THANK YOU, you are the best there is, hands down no bullshit.
Kyle Crockett and Josh Canfield THANK YOU, true friends and we love you guys.
JD Bagley, my brother from another mother, you are tremendous, THANK YOU.
Greg Flowers aka Hook'em, THANK YOU, you are a true friend. You ****er! lol.
Dave 6 THANK YOU for your concern
Scott and Scotty Wennerstrom THANK YOU....great friends
Russell Carey, THANK YOU. While we only spoke briefly your words were powerful. VERY POWERFUL.
To all of the people I have mentioned and to the ones I may have forgotten THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. You will never know what your thoughts and actions mean to me and I will never be able to express in words how I feel about you, but we love each and everyone of you like family......because you are family. And if you EVER need anything my family will be there for you and yours in a heartbeat.

The moto family is a pretty awesome thing. I felt the same way when Ryan stacked it up on the way home from Lorretas a few years back and people stepped up to help and lend support.

Hey Boogie. How is Zach doing? Someone at our Supercross watching party last night said they thought he was still in the hospital. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you guys. Zach is a top notch kid and really hate this for him.

Zach got out of the hospital in St. Louis late Tuesday and made it back to Texas on Thurs. We made a stop over with some family in KC so he didn't have to make the 10 hr. trip all at once. He is in good spirits considering. He will have to wear his neck and back brace for at least 3 months. He has to wear it whenever he is out of bed. Went to the spine specialist on Monday and he said Zach will have to wear the brace for at least 3 months. Physical Therapy will follow that to get the strength back since the brace will doing to the work during that time. The total healing time should be about 6 months if all goes well. This has definitely been an unexpected life changing experience for us and our family appreciates all of the thoughts, prayers and support from our MX family.

Man he is doing really well. Back to the Doc next Tuesday to hopefully be out of his back brace for good, then a couple of months of rehabing and strength training. After that we will put him on a new color of bike and get him back up to speed............................................. ................. and this time next year DOMINATE the Pro Showdown lol!

Yeah man he went down pretty hard in practice at RV on Saturday prior to the Cancer Race. He did not break his back, however he bruised his spine and his lungs and got hit on the head pretty good. We will be in the market for a new helmet.....
