View Full Version : Rabbit Run BMX - Bike Cross 1974 (a.k.a., BMX)

I am interested in information about a couple bicycle races held back in 1974 at the old Rabbit Run MX track in Plano. I have a few photos and attended one in September 1st and another one later in the year. I am interested to learn if there were other races besides these two, and if anyone has additional photos from these (or other similar) events.

Back in the late 70s and early 80s didn't you ride a torker and have huge ass beard?
I used to see you ride at Rabbit Run and Tawakoni Downs

I believe that is the one. I talked to an old buddy that owned Tawakoni Downs if he remembered him.

There was only one BMX race in 74. It was during Yamaha dirt days and they gave away a Yamaha Moto-bike in a drawing. My younger brother Joel won the bike. The race was held on the first two straight aways of the mx track, no BMX track yet. I rode in it, wearing my mx boots. I didn't win. I broke the frame on the moto-bike on some jumps near my house.

Boy that was a trip down memory lane. My parents took me out there to race a couple of times before I got into mx. I had a bmx bike with the plastic mx tank on it. I thought I was so cool at 7 or 8 back then. LOL

Ha! My first bike was a bmx with the pastic mx tank too. I found a thumbnail pic of it I scanned back in the 90's, the numberplate shows up better than the tank.

Wow, thanks so much for the video TeamCramp.

Yes, I raced many times at Hidden Trails and Tawakoni Downs, beard and all. Those were fun times.

Attached are a couple photos from those 1974 races. There were at least two races, one on September 1st and one on October 20th. The one on the right is that September 1st race. The other two were from the October 20th race. Best I can tell, these were the first two organized BMX races in the state of Texas. Anyone else have photos or videos to share?

Just to add to story. Ive been in plano since 1978 and can remember when it was on the east side of 75 than moved to the west side for bmx bicycles only. I was in high school during 80 to 82 and regret not going out there to watch the races and stuff cause of no interest. My fault""" Just think,i would be A LOT Better if i got a Mx bike back than getting on one now at 48 years young""" roflmfao :mrgreen: All my bikes are just FUN to ride.
