Welcome to Jerrys World. Being one of his worst critics i'll say that SX in his house was right on par with the hype. Relaxed atmosphere, new amenities, hell even security was friendly!

A complete gallery can be found, a little higher rez photos (these on here suck) http://www.11kphotos.com/dallas_sx_2010

You'll notice the track doesnt use the edge. Best guess, dont want bikes near all those high-priced, glass enclosed suites?

An old friend of mine works the asterisks medical gig, for Doc Bodner, when the sx roles into town. we went to grade school and high school together back in Okla. Somewhere along the way he made better/right decisions and became a surgeon. before becoming a doc he was plenty damn fast on mini's. Several ponca appearances if memory serves me correctly, it's been 30yrs. Anyway, my buddy Jim Kennedy

So i'm upstairs wondering around the mezzanine looking for weird stuff to shoot. Those sections were closed until later in the evening so it was kind of like a ghost town up there. Anyway i hear a familiar voice over the PA, look through a hallway and see a 6story Wilbur! Didnt have time to bolt on the wide angle so this was shot with a 300mm prime. For reference, see the tiny people in the background, lower right.

Thanks for throwing props to young $mith - he was on the bad end of a straight-up vicious crash on Thursday at the GNC which involved ems getting him off the track, another ems visit later that day, and a bout of spitting up blood for an hour. He wanted to use Dallas as some practice for Houston, and did not have high hopes after the crash less than 48 hrs before hand.

Good pics here Aaron. I saw you several times on Saturday. You kept coming to my section in the stands and shooting the triple. I didn't want to bother you while you were shooting, so I just hoped to see you walking around. Never did, but I did happen to run into Mxjunk, Viking, Shand, AR616 and DonkeyPunch, but I didn't find out it was him until he walked away and Shand told me so.

Saturday morning MickeyMeanie and I made a trip to Arlington Camera to get myself a new set of strobes. I cancelled the order I placed with B&H after it had been a month and still no strobes. That camera store is nothing like I expected. I was thinking it was going to be this big superstore type place from all I've heard about it. They did have alot of stuff though and their staff seemed to be pretty konwledgable. It looked like they've outgrown that building for sure. It was nice though, they've got alot of stuff.

Damn Russ, you should've let me know the night before. i would've met you there. we pass that shop on the way to the stadium. Yes, its an old worn out store but that's why i like it. That shop rules, the 300 you saw me with belongs to them. i'm too poor to afford a 300 f2.8 but hopefully by summer i'll have one. Glad they hooked you up, i could've referred you in btw... that place is my D&S of the camera world.

Believe it or not, i was shooting mostly this stuff from your section. i shot a few of that triple but it was a sweet spot that first corner

Yea, I thought that was your shop. I didn't think to see if dropping your name would have saved any $.Crap, I dropped almost $3,000 so any kind of discount would have been great. Oh well, its just money right. Luckily most of the members here donate to me so I don''t have to charge people at the tracks to take their pics. Haha

Yea, I was thinking a 300 or 400 would have been awesome from our seats. Good luck on getting a 300 by Freestone. You do know all you have to do is ask for donations right on here right? Everyone will send you whatever funds you need. It's awesome!! I'm going to get a long prime by the first football game in the fall. I'm going to try and find a barely used 400 2.8 for just a bit more than a new 300 would be,hopefully anyway. I think if I had Arlington camera in my town, I wouldn't bother buying one and just rent one though. You're a lucky guy to have that store local for sure.

Hopefully you can still get credentials for Houston. I missed out on shooting A1 last year because I didn't get on John soon enough and Denny said no to him because he asked 2 weeks out and they have a rule of applying at least 3 weeks out.

oh man, i made the mistake of taking a 400 to freestone last year. i was whipped by that thing. great images but my god they are heavy. at least for 100 degree weather. man if i had that $3k i would have damn sure bought a 300 prime. strobes arent a bad choice though. Rage has some kickass little slave/strobes that are portable. coolest thing ever.

yup Arlington Camera is really cool! they have a competitor.. Ft Worth Camera, lol, that has very similar stuff. Equally nice to deal with and you cant go wrong with either. I'm spoiled.. two camera shops within 20 mins of my home.

Yea, I remember that 400. I took a shot with it in the media tent. I couldn't believe how you had to hold it. I bought the strobes because I'm getting into portrait photography (where the money's at). I got really really good set of strobes that have built in wireless triggering, so no pocketwizards for me! Wo Hooo. I'm going to buy a Vagabond so I can take them on location anywhere I want. I'm pretty excited to start doing something different with photography. I'm starting to do senior portraits, proms, etc.. It's like everything else, you gotta spend money to make money.

I'll see ya at Freestone for sure. I'm shooting Hangtown and Freestone for someone else this year. I'll be sure and talk to Reed and tell him to keep an eye out for you because you were talking smack about him again so he can pepper your ass with roost again!! hahahaha, that was hilarious!!

Question is what photog doesn't have strobes that are slaves? You need alot more than strobes and a light meter to take portraits (properly). Strobes are only a small portion of what you need. I suggest you join ppa and start going to conferences if you wanna jump start your senior and portrait business. Many successful photogs give their secrets, marketing and business plans away.

Oh and pocketwizards - how about my chic lost 4 of them at a shoot - just left them behind - glad i don't count on them.

Did you guys ever find that backdrop Rage?

One of my strobes shoots trigger only, does not have slave capability. Its fast and good power but it was my first strobe and it was CHEAP. ironically it outlasted my prophoto rig which was kinda weird as that JTL has been dropped, kicked, stepped on.. hell the modeling lamp has been broken for 3 yrs but that sucker fires every time.

Oh yea, I know it takes alot more than just owning good equipment to take good portraits. I've been buying books on it and I recently took an all day class on off camera lighting from a local pro that I'm friends with. We got to use his strobes and meter with our camera's. We learned what different lights do what and the effects they have. Later this week or early next week, he is giving me a half day private training session with my equipment in his studio. That's going to be great.

As far as PPA, I've already taken that step. My buddy that is teaching me is also one of the directors of our local PPA. I've already attended one event and plan on going to all of them that I can.

I can't imagine how pleasant it was around your house when your wife left 4 pocketwizards on location!! That is one very expensive mistake.

Hey, thanks for the advise Tim, I'm always down to have some knowledge thrown my way. I know you don't generally give too much, so I appreciate it when you do.
